Update from Mariners Foundation Board
The Board and I wanted to extend our thanks again to the Mariners community for a successful Fall Fundraiser and Pledge Drive. I can’t say it enough, but it is the generosity from families giving both time and money which makes Mariners Elementary School the great school that it is, and we never lose sight of that fact.
I also wanted to bring the community up to date on several ways we’re using the funds raised to implement improvements.
We continue to promote science and technology heavily at the school through:
- Purchasing an initial two new computers for the additional second grade classroom required this year as well as replacing several batteries and various other items related to computers.
- Funding up to an additional $10,000 from the budget to go toward more computers to replace some of the aging classroom computers for our students (the school has the need for replacing up to 80 computers which are becoming out of date and unreliable).
- Committing the $2,700 raised from the Fall Fundraiser technology bid item to directly benefit computers in the classroom for students.
- Paying for science aides and regular aides to allow teachers additional breadth in their curriculum to enrich science education.
The Foundation proudly continues to fund, monitor and evaluate the Science Program. We are dedicated to this program and we work closely with Principal Pam Coughlin and the staff to see that the Foundation funds are put to good use for the benefit of all our children. I would like to extend a special thanks to our Foundation Science Committee of Dr. Teryn Clarke and Patricia Stark for all their efforts and continued follow up on this program. The Science Program is important to our school and we welcome parents’ comments regarding it.
In addition, the Foundation continues to subsidize music and facilities improvements and Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reader where we have extended the program into new modules better aligned with State testing.
Thank you again for continuing to support Mariners Elementary and being so generous with your time and your resources. If you have any questions or wish to get more involved in Mariners, the PTA, or the Foundation, please do not hesitate to reach out to either myself or any of our board members.
On behalf of the board,
Mariners Elementary School Foundation
